A 54-year-old man fell from a fire escape on to a first floor roof in Hanover early yesterday morning (Friday 28 January).
A crew from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service was called out just 5.30am to Hanover Crescent in Brighton.
Sussex Police helped to move cars to make room for an aerial ladder to be used to reach the man who was lifted clear on a vacuum mattress.
The rescue took nearly two hours.
The man was treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for his injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.
Sussex Police did not say what the man was doing on the fire escape before he fell but a spokesman said that the circumstances were not believed to be suspicious.
