Pride’s theme this year will be Out of This World, organisers announced today.
The theme was suggested by The Zone bar on St James’s Street. Rachel Midgley from the Zone said: “This is brilliant. It’s fantastic for all our customers and staff involved in the fund-raiser.
“Pride in Brighton and Hove is such an important event for the whole community we are proud to support the charity and look forward to an Out of This World Pride 2011.”
This is the first time the theme has been suggested by a local venue and competition was fierce. During October, November and December 2010 the Name That Theme competition saw ten venues champion their ideas: The Aquarium (Pride in the UK), Bedford Tavern (Once Upon A Time in Brighton), Brighton Tavern (Brighton n Beautiful), Charles Street (Pride at the Movies), Dr Brighton’s (Pirates and Princesses), Jack Horner, Worthing (Pride in Panto), Marine Tavern (Pride at the Soaps), Revenge (Pride in Space), Vavoom (Around the World in GAYTY Days) and of course The Zone (Out of this World).
Pride in Brighton and Hove’s Festival Director, Judith Manson said: “Prise & No Prejudice will be a hard act to follow but now we’re looking forward to Out of This World as suggested by The Zone, and are committed to making the event live up to its name.
“We were thrilled by the effort and hard work the customers and staff put into the fundraising event in October 2010 which raised £206.27 for the charity.”
Out of this World will be applied to everything Pride in Brighton and Hove does throughout the year.
Previous themes have included Pride Beside The Seaside, Pride Around The World, Pride The Musicals, Carry On Pride, Silver Screen, Heroes and Heroines and The Greatest Show on Earth.
