Council chief executive John Barradell is to address the next meeting of the North Laine Community Association.
The association spent much of the spring and summer of this year debating its future.
One of the ideas for reviving the association was to have guest speakers – and Mr Barradell, who runs Brighton and Hove City Council, will give the group’s first talk of 2011.
He will speak about his role and his vision for the future of the city at the Brighthelm Centre in North Road on Monday 10 January.
He will then take questions from those attending the meeting, which starts at 8pm.
The association said after its internal review that residents clearly valued its work.
It said: “Our planning and licensing officers do a great deal of work in supporting and representing local residents and helping them to make representations to the council.
“Much of this work goes on behind the scenes but nevertheless is vital to maintaining the quality of life for residents.
“The police and the council value the work of the NLCA and are in regular contact to gain advice and information.”
The association also operates as the North Laine LAT, a local action team which works with police, council and other local agencies to deal with identifiable issues within the area.
Another idea to revive the association is for a summer fete to be held on Saturday 18 June to celebrate the area.
