The funeral of a much-loved and widely respected councillor takes place at a church in Hangleton next week.
Councillor David Smart died aged 74 last week (Wednesday 8 December) after he is believed to have suffered a heart attack.
His funeral is to be held at St Helen’s Church in Hangleton Way, Hove, in the council ward that he served and where he grew up.
It will take place at 11am on Wednesday (22 December).
Most mourners are expected to attend the service that follows at noon at the Downs Crematorium main chapel in Bear Road, Brighton.
Councillor Smart, who represented Hangleton and Knoll, leaves a widow, Olive, two children, Graham and Alison, and seven grandchildren.
Although he sat on Brighton and Hove City Council for the Conservatives, he was liked by his political rivals for his enthusiasm and decency as well as being popular with his colleagues.
His family have asked for family flowers only with any donations to go to the British Heart Foundation.
