Surfin' Bird reaches number 3 in midweek Christmas charts

A Brighton comedian’s attempt to get a 1960s surf rock hit to the top of the Christmas hit parade has been given a massive boost by reaching number three in the midweek charts.
Matt Whistler recorded a risque video featuring him dancing round Brighton in the snow dressed in nothing more than a mankini and red and white women’s lingerie to the strains of The Trashmen’s Surfin’ Bird.
The accompanying Facebook campaign group now has more than 629,000 members, who it is urging to buy the song to knock X Factor winner Matt Cardle from the number one slot.
They said: “The show shouldn’t be guaranteed a place in the charts. It’s our freedom as individuals to choose.”
