The Hove student arrested after climbing on the Cenotaph in London during the tuition fees protests has been released on police bail.
Charlie Gilmour, 21, was taken to a Sussex Police station after his arrest on Sunday (12 December) for questioning.
The former Lancing College pupil – the son of Pink Floyd star David Gilmour and author Polly Samson – was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
He is also suspected of theft and attempted criminal damage to a Union Flag hanging from the Cenotaph in Whitehall, Central London.
Police said that he was bailed until a date in June next year while officers make further inquiries.
Charlie Gilmour apologised publicly for what he described as his “moment of idiocy” after he was pictured on several newspaper front pages.
The Cambridge University student said: “I would like to express my deepest apologies for the terrible insult to the thousands of people who died bravely for our country that my actions represented.”
He took part in the protests last Thursday (2 December) which was marked by violence, including an attack on the car carrying the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall.
The demonstration was held to oppose the Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition government’s proposed rise in university tuition fees to up to £9,000 a year for university students.
