Another student demonstration is expected to take place in Brighton today.
Students and trade unionists are planning to demonstrate outside City College Brighton and Hove in Pelham Street, Brighton, between noon and 2pm.
They are angry about proposals to scrap an allowance to encourage poorer children into further education.
The education maintenance allowance, worth up to £30 a week for students from families on low incomes, is being axed by the Government.
It is paid to thousands of teenagers across Sussex and an estimated 2,600 in Brighton and Hove alone.
Campaigners have dubbed it the “most disgraceful cut of all” so far and insist it will lead to course closures and staff redundancies.
Unison, the public sector trade union, said that it about 50 per cent of students at City College received the allowance.
It added that it also went to about 30 per cent of students at Varndean College and about 20 per cent at Brighton, Hove and Sussex VI Form College (BHASVIC).
