A man who threatened a member of staff in a Brighton newsagents escaped with nothing when the assistant defended himself and drove the would be robber from the shop.
The man entered the shop in Ditchling Road shortly before 5.30pm yesterday, wielding what is believed to be a bag containing a snooker ball and demanded that the assistant hand over cash. When he left he headed off uphill towards Fiveways.
He is described as white, 6ft, about 40 years old, of large build and spoke in a gruff voice with a southern accent. He wore a thigh length light brown/camel duffle coat, a dark balaclava and gloves. The hood of the coat was up over the balaclava.
