More snow is expected to fall across Brighton and Hove today (Thursday 2 December).
Council staff are working to clear snow and grit around the hospitals, ambulance station, police and fire stations across the city.
Snow ploughs are clearing major routes.
People are being encouraged to clear pavements in front of their homes.
Grit bins across the city are marked on a council map online at www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/index.cfm?request=c1237395.
The council has 1,500 tonnes of grit stored which is almost double the amount needed during an average year.
Government advice to salt, shovel and sweep states there is no legal reason not to clear paths.
Details are available on the Direct Gov website at www.direct.gov.uk/en/Nl1/Newsroom/DG_191868.
Appeals are being made to 4×4 drivers to help the council deliver meals and transport carers and district nurses around the city.
Anyone who can help is asked to email icanhelp@brighton-hove.gov.uk.
Fact is, anyone venturing out does so at their own risk in the first instance and against public warnings not to do so. Falling, whatever the circumstances on the ground, must surely be an Act of God in this case.
