The latest vacancy at Brighton and Hove City Council prompted a sharp comment in The Sunday Times yesterday.
It reported an advertisement for a replacement for Sarah Owen, political assistant to the Labour group of councillors, under the heading: “Pointless jobs corner.”
The newspaper said: “As part of a £3.5 million austerity drive, Brighton and Hove Council has had to cut back its youth service.
“But it can still apparently afford a political assistant to the Labour group (up to 35,430) whose job will include ‘liaising with stakeholders to communicate the group’s political message with the outside world’.
“Brighton and Hove has 13 Labour councillors.
“Can one of them not be spared to spread the glorious news of Labour policy in Brighton and Hove to an expectant public?
“After all, that’s what councillors used to do.”
clearly this is considered more essential than looking after the vulnerable, and providing useful services to this city. How can so many people keep getting it so wrong? Are we really this stupid?
I saw this and thought it was a new job but apparently not. It doesn’t say much for the previous job holder since no information about the Labour group seemed to reach the residents of Brighton.
