A woman was raped in Brighton in the early hours of this morning.
The 21-year-old victim was attacked by a man she had met earlier in the evening.
The attack took place in Temple Gardens, north of Western Road, near the junction with Montpelier Road.
He was disturbed when someone shouted from a window that they would call the police and was seen to run off south along Temple Gardens.
The victim, who lives in Moulsecoomb, was attacked at about 2.20am today.
Detective Inspector Steve Warner said: “Officers are offering continued support to the victim during this difficult time and are conducting a meticulous investigation into this serious offence.
“We are asking the local people of Brighton for their support while we investigate this rare and isolated incident.
“I am keen to speak to anyone who may hold information pertinent to this investigation.
“However insignificant the information may seem, please contact us immediately.”
The suspect is described as white, aged 18 to 19 years old, 5ft 7in tall, skinny, with mousy dark brown spiked hair and wearing baggy jeans and a baggy top.
A forensic examination of the scene is taking place.
Chief Inspector Laurence Taylor said: “Neighbourhood officers will be maintaining a highly visible presence in the area over the coming days, conducting house-to-house inquiries and putting up information boards about the investigation.”
