A 35-year-old man from Brighton has been charged with attacking a car driver in Portland Road, Hove, last Sunday (7 November).
Paul Lambeth, 35, of Stafford Road, Brighton, has today been charged with assault.
Sussex Police said that he is due to be appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Saturday 13 November).
The victim, Tony Magdi, 52, a greengrocer from Hove, was assaulted after opening his car door, causing three cyclists to take avoiding action.
One of the cyclists then assaulted Mr Magdi.
Mr Magdi suffered a serious head injury and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
He was later transferred to Hurstwood Park Neurosciences Centre in Haywards Heath, where he remains in a stable but critical condition.
A 36-year-old man from Brighton was arrested after handing himself into Brighton police station at around 4.45pm on Tuesday (9 November) after seeing the police appeal in the media.
No further action is being taken against him by police.
