Ron Weasley’s dad from the Harry Potter films is to open a Hove school’s £1.7 million extension.
Brighton-based actor and comedian Mark Williams, 51, who plays Arthur Weasley, and also starred on television in The Fast Show, will be at Davigdor Infant School tomorrow.
He will open a two-storey extension which includes new classrooms, pupil and staff toilets, group rooms, a new hall, reception, meeting room, admin offices and staff room.
The project also involved refurbishing reception classrooms and an art installation by artist Salina Somalya who worked with pupils in workshops exploring the plants and animals living in nearby St Ann’s Well Gardens.
The extension means that Davigdor, in Somerhill Road, Hove, has been able to expand from three forms of entry to four.
The neighbouring Somerhill Junior School is also being expanded by a form of entry.
The official opening will also be attended by the Brighton and Hove City Council cabinet member for children and young people, Councillor Vanessa Brown.
She said: “This extension is a key part of our strategy for increasing the number of much-needed primary age school places in central Hove.”
The latest Harry Potter film – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I – is due to open on Friday 19 November.
