Thousands of commuters were held up on their way to work this morning after a two-car prang blocked the A23 just north of Brighton.
No one was hurt in the accident on the northbound side of the A23 at Pyecombe.
But the crashed cars brought traffic to a standstill with queues back to the Mill Road roundabout below the A27 Brighton bypass at Patcham.
The accident happened at about 7.15am and Sussex Police and a crew of firemen dealt with the clear up.
The road was fully cleared at about 8.15am but the traffic jam and the weight of rush-hour traffic meant the delays continued for some time after.
