One of the main roads through the centre of Brighton was closed for half an hour just as the evening rush hour was about to begin.
Eastern Road was closed outside the Royal Sussex County Hospital after an accident involving a pedestrian and a motorcyclist.
An ambulance attended and the motorcyclist was taken to the accident and emergency department to be treated for minor injuries.
The pedestrian was not believed to have needed treatment.
The road was closed from 4.30pm and reopened at 5pm.
There were queues in both directions from the junction of Eastern Road and Paston Place.
From the west, they stretched back as far as the Gala bingo hall.
PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!
Eastern Road at the hospital and Paston Place are constantly congested and crossing over to reach a taxi in Paston Place is dangerous for pedestrians. The hospital needs better and immediate taxi access on or nearer it’s grounds, not two busy and dangerous roads away and on a hill climb, that is tricky for frail and fisabled patients. Other hospitals have safe and immediate taxi access for patients. Why not the Sussex? There needs to be a better solution than the current one that improves taxi access and reduces health impact from air pollution.
