A pair of pensioners suspected of racially abusing a Brighton mother who was travelling on a bus with her two young children have appeared in court.
Peter Ford, 70, and his wife Jennifer, 67, of Wellington Road, Brighton, faced a charge of racially aggravated intentional harassment, alarm or distress.
They are accused of committing the offence on the number 81 bus in Elm Grove, Brighton, on Monday 14 June.
The victim, who was described as having a Southern European or Mediterranean appearance, was with her children aged 5 and 7 when the offence took place.
Although the couple have not yet entered a formal plea, they appear likely to plead not guilty as they have asked to be tried for the offence in the crown court.
They were remanded on bail to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 25 November.
