A Brighton landlord has been taken to court for breaking safety rules.
Graham Rix, of Upper Bevendean Avenue, Brighton, failed to supply gas and electricity certificates for a house which has been converted into flats.
The certificates are supposed to show that the property is safe for those living there.
Rix had a licence for the house, which he manages, but he failed to produce the relevant certificates, Brighton and Hove City Council said.
The council said that it had reminded Rix.
This week the council took Rix to court and he was fined £867 and ordered to pay £750 towards the council’s legal costs.
After the case at Brighton Magistrates’ Court the council said that it would ask Rix again to produce the safety certificates.
If he doesn’t produce them, he may face another court case.
