Two men have been arrested after the hit and run outside Waitrose in Western Road, Brighton.
The incident happened at about 7.35am yesterday.
A 31-year-old man from Brighton has been arrested by Sussex Police on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to report an accident and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.
A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of careless driving and failing to report an accident.
A 28-year-old pedestrian sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries in the incident.
He was hit by one of the seven wheelie bins that the black Vauxhall Vectra struck outside the supermarket.
He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, with suspected broken ribs.
