The Brighton lifeboat rescued a stricken yacht which was drifting a mile south of St Dunstan’s home for blind ex-servicemen in Ovingdean.
The RNLI crew launched their boat just after 7.30pm yesterday to rescue the 9.5m yacht, which had suffered an engine failure.
Two other yachts had attempted to take the vessel in tow but had been unable to due to the sea conditions.
The troubled yacht was drifting with just its jib sail up and had reached half a mile off Rottingdean in a slight sea with a force three to four south-westerly wind.
Just over an hour later the yacht and its two-man crew had been towed safely back to Brighton Marina by the lifeboat.
