A man was attacked with a knife in daylight outside the Duke of York’s Picturehouse in Preston Circus on Friday.
The 40-year-old homeless man was hit in the face with the butt of the knife leaving him with head injuries at about 6am.
Police are now reviewing CCTV and appealing for witnesses to the attack.
Detective Sergeant Stephen French said: “The victim was sat on the steps of the Duke of York cinema at the time of the attack, talking to two men he’d met that evening. The men ran when the victim was approached and assaulted by another man, who ran off in the direction of Viaduct Road. These men may hold important information, so I’d urge them and any other witnesses to contact us immediately.”
The man was found bleeding in Ditchling Rise at about 7.45am He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital for treatment.
The suspect is described as white, 5ft 8in, of skinny or slim build, with short blonde/ginger hair. He was wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt, blue indigo jeans and white trainers and spoke with a southern accent.
