Brighton Pavilion´s Green MP Caroline Lucas has been named Ethical Politician of the Year by The Observer.
But the newspaper´s report also questioned whether her aims were realistic.
It asked whether the public was really prepared to live a greener lifestyle.
Ms Lucas said that it was up to the Government to make it possible for everybody to have more sustainable lifestyles “rather than being a niche thing that only those people with the money or the time can actually do”.
She said: “People are genuinely confused. During the Copenhagen summit they got told that climate change is the greatest threat we face and as soon as that summit was over those same leaders haven’t mentioned the climate since.
“Surely if it is the greatest threat, there should be more political action?”
Ms Lucas, formerly a Green Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for South East England, won the Greens´ first seat in the House of Commons in the general election on Thursday 6 May.
