Plans for a major expansion of a popular Brighton primary school have been unveiled.
Brighton and Hove City Council has submitted a planning application to build 12 new classrooms, along with other facilities, in a two-storey extension at outstanding-rated Westdene Primary, in Bankside.
The expansion, which will provide enough space for two extra classes of 30 pupils in each year, forms part of the council’s plan to deal with a shortage of places in parts of the city.
It is also proposing extensions to Queen’s Park Primary, in Freshfield Place, Brighton, and Goldstone Primary in Laburnam Avenue, Hove. In March the council controversially created a new infant section at Benfield Junior, in Portslade, without warning parents.
The council’s planning committee will be asked to vote on the Westdene plans before a deadline on August 27.
