After lying empty for two years an office block on Manchester Street is to become a language school.
Change of use from offices was granted by Brighton and Hove Council’s planning committee today (Wednesday, June 9), subject to a management plan.
Conditions in place before EC Brighton English Language School can move from its current location in Portland Place, Kemp Town, include providing details of travel plans, smoking and common areas, activities, student movements and hours.
Further conditions include fitting obscured glass to windows to the western side of the five-storey building.
Councillor Lynda Hyde, chairman of the planning committee, said: “This is a practical decision that will make use of a building empty for two years and provide employment for over 40 people.”
The planning permission is for a language school and/or offices, which will provide flexibility in the future use of the building.
