Train operator Southern is in jubilant mood after achieving its most punctual day.
On Monday, a “phenomenal” 98.1% of all Southern trains reached their destinations on time. Southern’s overall performance has also been improving steadily recent months, despite being hampered by snow and ice in December last year and in January this year.
Southern’s Managing Director, Chris Burchell said: “All the hard work put in by everyone at Southern is now paying off with this fantastic performance.
“This is the best single weekday punctuality figure we have produced for well over seven years. I am delighted for our passengers as this is the level of service provision they expect and deserve.”
Since December, Southern has leaped up four places in the train operator’s performance table and last month, it was the country’s most improved train operator with a 12.7% improvement over the same period last year.
