It’s not a place many people associate with high art, or even low art – but a new blog wants to document the unexpected beauty found in the smallest room in the house.
Rimshots has been set up by Hovite Ewan Swain, who wants people to send him pictures from the inside of toilet cubicles – particularly public ones.
He is keen to stress he is not obsessed with toilets – but instead set up the blog on a whim while contemplating the aesthetics of a toilet at Brighton’s most famous landmark.
Ewan said: “I was sitting on the loo in the Brighton Pavilion, and noted the old pipes, and the small curtain and thought it looked a bit unique. Sadly I didn’t have my camera with me.
“Then I started thinking about the various toilets I may have sat on in my life, some had great graffiti, some had no door, some had a low wall which meant I was essentially waving to the cafe. If only there was somewhere to put all this.
“The idea is to get people, from anywhere in the world to send in pictures of their toilet cubicle, I want grimey inner city loos, outside Mexican street cafe loos, posh loos at the Ritz, you name it.
“I also hope that there will be the chance for people to show that just because the picture is from a toilet cubicle, it doesn’t mean it has to be bland. There are plenty of great photographers out there and they all need to use the loo.”
Anyone can submit a picture by emailing rimshotspics@googlemail.com, preferably with some details, especially the location, and a comment. As long as it isn’t rude, it will go up.
