Thieves have stolen tools, sports equipment and generators in a spate of garage burglaries in Brighton.
The break-ins have taken place in the Brentwood Road, Surrenden Road and Lauriston Road areas, many in blocks of garages set back from houses.
Brighton police have warned people to lock up their garages securely to avoid becoming the raiders’ next victim.
Sergeant Chris Lane said: “Up and over garage doors are vulnerable to attack and supplementary heavy duty padlocks or specialist garage locks can offer an extra layer of protection.
“Valuable items such as cycles benefit from additional security, perhaps via heavy duty locks attached to ground or wall anchors. Tools can be placed in tool safes or lockable cabinets.
“Property should be security marked and free UV pens can be provided on request to your local police station.”
Any suspicious behaviour should be reported to the police and if anyone suspects that an offence is in progress, they should call police on 999.
