Brighton Garden Centre is giving youngsters the chance to carve a humble spud into their favourite rock, film or sports star.
Staff at Brighton Garden Centre on Warren Road, are challenging children to create weird and wonderful creatures and people from potatoes.
Models will then be displayed anonymously for one week from Monday, March 22 and customers will be asked to vote for their favourites.
Jason Cowell, Manager of Brighton Garden Centre, explained: “The competition is a fun idea and we hope as many youngsters as possible enter. We will have the models on display at both garden centres and will ask customers to vote for their favourites via a ballot box.
“Although we don’t have any hard and fast rules we are looking for models of famous people such as politicians and pop stars.”
The closing date for entries is 4pm on Sunday, March 21. The competition is part of the garden centres’ Grow Your Own Potatoes Event, which runs from Saturday, March 20 until Sunday, March 28.
Steve Gillis, Manager of Lewes Garden Centre, added: “The rules are very simple. There are two age categories: four to seven-years-old and eight to 11-years-old. Any shape/size potato can be entered and any other products can be used to enhance the appearance of the potato.”
