A knife-wielding robber forced a terrified member of staff to hand over hundreds of pounds in a raid at a Portslade bookmaker’s yesterday.
The man came into the Ladbrokes in Station Road at about 6.30pm and demanded cash. After the man behind the counter handed it over, he ran off towards Portslade Station, then New Church Road. Nobody was hurt.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery to call Police on 0845 60 70 999 quoting serial 1327 of 8 February.
A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and is in custody awaiting questioning.
This is the latest in a series of armed raids on bookmakers in the city. On October 29, a Ladbrokes in Arundel Road, Kemp Town was robbed, on January 20 a gunman held up Ladbrokes in Market Street, Brighton, and on February 1 two BetFred shops in Hollingbury Place and Lewes Road, Brighton were raided.
