BHASVIC has come up with a groundbreaking way of tackling maths lessons – and says it is reaping big rewards.
The Guardian reports how Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form College’s head of maths Ronnie George decided to make use of extra classroom hours by giving students individual face-to-face feedback.
And while each student gets personal time from one teacher, the rest of the class is given tests, quizzes and exam questions to tackle.
George says the result is that students take more responsibility for their learning – and as a consequence they are more likely to do their homework.
And the pupils agree. Becki Blann, 16, said: “You look at the comments but you don’t really take it in as much compared to having it done in front of you. Having personal time with a teacher is really helpful.”
