An extra 60 places are to be created at Goldstone Primary School in Hove and Westdene Primary School in Brighton.
Brighton and Hove City Council have given the go-ahead for 30 extra places at each school in this September’s intake, increasing each school’s reception class to 90 pupils.
This follows an outcry last year after many children failed to get places at their first choice school, with a particular shortage in Hove.
The council’s cabinet member for children and families, Councillor Vanessa Brown, said: “We are very aware of parental concerns about primary places in the city, and have now acted decisively to address these concerns.
“Parents need to be aware of this change as it will affect the current primary age school admissions round.”
The deadline for applications for primary school places for the academic year starting September 2010 is Friday 5 February.
