A 66-year-old man died last night after a blaze at his home in Stapley Road, Hove.
Firefighters were called to the flat which the man shared with his wife at 11.30pm last night.
The man died at the scene and the woman was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital where she was treated for smoke inhalation.
Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service are investigating the cause of the fire.
