Do you want your green garden waste collected from your home? A Green councillor has started a petition to urge Brighton and Hove City Council to do just that.
Jason Kitcat is trying to show the council that there is enough demand from people prepared to pay for a scheme.
He said: “Garden green waste makes up about 10 per cent of our residential waste. At the moment the administration has no plans to collect garden waste (or food waste). They are sending it to landfill and incineration.
“It would be much cheaper for the taxpayer and better for the environment if it could be collected and processed locally.
“I’m told that a council trial of garden waste collection in Hove about six years ago was extremely popular. I also know that the Older People’s Council is seeing strong demand for such a scheme.”
He added: “It’s a quick win for our recycling rate and residents want it.”
