Brighton firefighters are campaigning to save Preston Circus fire station.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service wants to sell the site and move crews to another site, although it hasn’t yet said where.
Firefighters serving at the historic station, next to the Duke of York’s cinema, say the present premises are perfectly sited and have undergone refurbishment and modernising work costing almost £1 million.
They also say that a new fire station would cost £4 million to build at a time when budgets are under pressure and would take them away from an excellent location from which to reach incidents quickly.
They have set up a Save Brighton Fire Station campaign and website and are urging people to write to the fire and rescue authority and to sign their petition.
