Sussex University has scored well in an analysis of research facilities for postgraduate students.
The university won praise for excellence in three subjects – economics, politics and psychology.
The rankings were put together by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE), a German-based independent education think-tank.
Sussex University has published a press release about the recognition given to it by CHE. Information about the CHE Excellence Ranking – in German – can be found at www.che-excellenceranking.eu. And the rankings have been published in a reasonably clear format in the German newspaper Die Zeit.
At the same time, rumours have been circulating that courses in human sciences and environmental science are under threat. As a result, a page has been set up on Facebook and an online petition has also been started.
The rumours follow a report in The Argus in March that the university would no longer be offering linguistics as a degree subject.
