A transformer caught fire at Shoreham power station this afternoon (Sunday 24 January).
Fire crews from Brighton and Hove were sent to the port along with a crew from Southwick but the fire was out by the time they arrived.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue said: “We had quite a number of calls to reports of an explosion at Shoreham Harbour.”
The calls started coming in shortly after 1pm with neighbours spotting smoke.
“One of the transformer circuit breakers had blown out and there had been a very small fire in one of the transformers but the fire was out by the time we got there.
“We left the scene by about 1.30pm.
“We believe it caused a small power cut in the Shoreham area.”
