1 ) Winning the 1990 Eastbourne by-election before losing his seat in the 1992 general election.

2) Having the gall to attend the infamous “Goodbye Goldstone” live TV debate in 1997 and not only revealing his salary – £40k – but trying to justify the sale of the stadium which had been Albion’s home for 95 years.
3 ) Attending the Seagulls’ final league game of the 1996-97 season despite being asked not to by West Mercia Police, Sussex Police and the Football League.
4) Pursuing criminal charges against a young Albion fan who made threatening phone calls to his landline which subsequently saw the fan given a custodial sentence. The fan, who shall remain nameless, has since rebuilt his life, has a steady job and has become a father.
5) Having the conviction to maintain he always had the Albion’s best interest at heart.
